Lower Abdominal Pain

The initial examination is a plain film of the abdomen. In most cases, the next test should be a barium enema since diverticulosis is very common. Please note that ultrasound is a poor modality in the lower abdomen. If the clinical problem remains unresolved, the third step would be a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis with oral and IV contrast.
